Ninja Bunny Ski Mask (2010)

This non-pill polar fleece project was sparked by seeing a similar hat in an online store selling for an exorbitant price.

And good has come of making my own. Not only has it kept me toasty warm when I walk through snowstorms, it makes other people happy. No, really!

A few months ago, I wore this to a ninja-themed birthday party, and a five-year-old in attendance thought I was a real ninja. His eyes bugged out and he ran back into the living room (where everyone was waiting while decorations were getting set up), shouting, "Guys! Guys, there's a ninja in the kitchen! There's A NINJA IN THE KITCHEN!" At first I thought I'd freaked him out, but it turned out he was into some new Lego thing called Ninjago and going through a ninja-idolising phase.

After beating me at a few rounds of plastic dagger fighting, he was over the moon. I'm told he later bragged to his Kindergarten class about getting to meet me.

It feels awesome to make someone's day. There's been talk of the mysterious ninja making a mysterious reappearance for the kid's own birthday.
