You make me feel like a fish out of water,
Gasping for breath in a saltless sea
Where I can't stay long for fear of exhaustion,
But while I'm there, I'm full of glee.
The wind and the waves have different feels,
The water constricting, the breeze divine;
If only I could stand to stay in the air
And make your reality mine.
However short, however brief I can keep afloat,
I'll see the moments memorised, everything etched in
To my tiny guppy recollection, still feeling every time
I brushed you with my fin.
But fish must swim and birds must fly,
And if we chanced to meet again
We'd be odds out, mismatched kin,
Unhappy to the end.
